From the smallest amount of failed engine part and some background information, it can often prove possible to determine the likely events leading up to and the likely cause of an engine or system failure. This forensic pathology type of approach to engine failure can involve a combination of on site examination or the receipt of failed components by post and carrier. With the advances in communications and data transfer it is now possible, in some cases, to carry out basic and preliminary examination with the aid of images transferred electronically.

We were have recently concluded a long running commission from a navigation authority to develop a cost effective and acceptable solution to the contentious issue of a requirement to fit metallic spill rails to all diesel marine engines. The simple solution which was developed by our research has been accepted by not only the navigation authorities but was also welcomed by the fuel injection industry and the European authorities concerned.

We regularly act for engine marinisers, fleet operators and private individuals with regard to issues of engine failure and are frequently called upon to conduct engine testing on a test brake dynamometer to assess quality and delivered horsepower.
